Habs’ Bergevin Likely Not in the Race for Drouin

Johathan Drouin as requested a trade from the Tampa Bay Lightning through his agent, Allan Walsh. Remember the agent who was posting Jaroslav Halak‘s statistics in comparison to Carey Price‘s… when they were teammates? Yeah, that same Walsh.

Well Mr. Walsh won’t make any more friends amongst NHL General Managers after publicly requesting a trade for his client, which was rapidly spread all over social media.

As you can imagine, it didn’t take long before every Habs’ fan in the nation posted their hopes of seeing the 20 year old local product being the focal point of Canadiens’ GM Marc Bergevin. It’s understandable, Drouin is a former 3rd overall pick in 2013 and he has had a very successful career in the QMJHL.

But hold on to your enthusiasm folks, and don’t hold your breath hoping for Drouin to join the Habs any time soon. Oh there is no doubt that Bergevin will do everything in his power to acquire the disgruntled forward, you can be sure of that. But the fact remains that the last place Steve Yzerman and the Lightning want to see him is in their own division, on a team contending for the Stanley Cup.

In short, the odds of Bergevin making a serious pitch for Drouin are at 100%. The odds of them getting him are closer to 1-5% I’d say. Bergevin wants to improve his top-6 but to be truthful, they’ll have to look elsewhere than Tampa Bay to get the help that they need.
