Back from the SOEC in Penticton after watching a Young Star game between the Flames and the Sharks. I left with about 3 minutes left and the young Sharks were leading by the score of 6-1, the Flames having just scored their only goal… on a penalty shot.
In spite of the score, there wasn’t much to get excited about. The Flames totally dominated the first two periods but Sharks’ goalie, Thomas Heemskerk was spectacular between the pipes, making several outstanding saves. As a matter of fact, the Flames were outshooting the Sharks by a 3 to 1 margin at some point in the second, but found themselves trailing 5-0 on the scoreboard.
Flames’ goalie Joni Ortio had a rough game. He allowed a goal on each of the first two shots he faced and he looked bad on at least two or three of the Sharks’ goals.
In spite of the score and aside from young Heemskerk, few Sharks had an impact. I was however impressed with Dylan Wruck, a 5’8” and 165 lbs forward. Also, Curt Gogol showed the crowed that he has a great set of hands scoring on a nifty move.
